Psychiatry is a medical specialty dealing with the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of thoughtsm emotions, and/or behavior.
Our psychiatrists use an integrated approach. In addition to a face to face meeting, assessment may include a medical work up, (blood labs, EKG, EEG, brain imaging, etc.) or psychological testing. Treatment may include psychotherapy, medication, and consultation with other clinicians or with professionals from schools, courts or other organizations.
Medications can be an effective part of the treatment. Our psychiatrists use medications in combination with psychotherapy for more effective treatment. They will fully explain the benefits and risks of medications and other treatment alternatives.
Our psychiatrists collaborate with the patient, the family, and other clinicians to coordinate care. The length of treatment depends on the complexity and severity of problems.
