Philip Saragoza, M.D.

Dr. Saragoza practices adult psychiatry, including medication management and psychotherapy.  He tailors treatment to the needs of the individual, integrating interpersonal, cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, and mindfulness-based approaches in his work.  Due to his background in forensic psychiatry, Dr. Saragoza has particular expertise in working with individuals experiencing significant loss or life changes, as well as problems in the workplace.  Prior to joining the Ann Arbor Center for the Family as an affiliate, Dr. Saragoza spent several years assessing and treating individuals with legal problems and a wide variety of mental health issues, including extensive past trauma.

Dr. Saragoza is board-certified in adult psychiatry and forensic psychiatry.  He earned his undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Michigan.  He then completed his psychiatry residency, serving as chief resident, at University of Michigan before pursuing fellowship training in forensic psychiatry at Case Western Reserve University.  He has been on faculty at the University of Michigan since completing his training, and continues to teach and work there in forensic psychiatry and as a consultant to the University‚Äôs disability management staff and behavioral threat assessment team.  Dr. Saragoza also works with private agencies specializing in campus and workplace violence risk assessment.  He has published in forensic psychiatry and is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, Michigan Psychiatric Society and the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law.

Dr. Saragoza accepts Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO, but many people with other insurance plans can be reimbursed for a portion of the cost if they see Dr. Saragoza on an out-of-network basis.  Clients may also use Flexible Spending Accounts to cover health care expenses.
