Kashif Ahmed, MD

Dr. Ahmed provides in-person and virtual psychiatric services; depending on the needs of the individual, this may include psychotherapy and/or psychiatric medication. He primarily sees children, adolescents and young adults in his practice. Dr. Ahmed has a particular interest in serving patients from marginalized communities. He is experienced in treating conditions including anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, PTSD and other trauma-related disorders. Dr. Ahmed believes that the standard DSM model of psychiatric illness confers substantial benefit for some patients; however, many non-Eurocentric paradigms of mental health also offer rich, nuanced conceptualizations of why we suffer and how we become well. As such, Dr. Ahmed seeks to understand and incorporate the various cultural factors that inform his patients’ narratives of their own emotional distress and well-being.

Outside of work, Dr. Ahmed enjoys basketball, martial arts, reading and writing fiction, and spending time outdoors. He has never met anyone who enjoys chocolate as much as he does.

Dr. Ahmed does not accept insurance, though many patients are able to be partially reimbursed for their appointment fees by their insurance company using out-of-network benefits. Many patients can also use their FSA/HSA funds to pay for their office visits. Dr. Ahmed offers a sliding scale for patients with significant financial barriers to affording their out-of-pocket expenses.

Kashif Ahmed, MD earned his undergraduate degree in Brain, Behavior & Cognitive Science from the University of Michigan and his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School.
